Adding Shoutbox in a Blog

For those of you who do not know what is a shoutbox. A shoutbox is feature that allows you to chat live with your audience whenenever they are browsing through your web page contents.  Users can be able to send short message directly from your blog through the use of a shoubox.

Shoutbox can sometimes be very helpful since you are able to respond to your audience concerns live unlike when you have to wait for an email or respond to their comments. It can also help in retaining visitors for a longer time and increasing traffic. Shoutbox help you in developing a personal kind of relationship with your visitors. It is also very easy to integrate it within your content.

How to Add a Shoutbox

There are  a few websites that provides  shoutbox  services such as; http://www.shoutmix.com/v3/, www.myshoutbox.com/, www.freeshoutbox.net/ etc but some of them may require you to pay a monthly subscription.

For this example, I will be using a shoutbox from myshoutbox.com/ since it is free. First, you need to signup for a new account.
  • After confirming your email and filling up the required information including the URL of your website.
  • On the left side bar, click on shoutbox setup
  • Fill in captcha
  • Click on Create new account
  • Configure your shoutbox by selecting style, color, language and anything else that need to be changed.

After you are through customizing your shoutbox to your likings, on your left side bar;

  • Click on  the control panel
  • Home page intergration
  • Generate HTML code to paste into your website.
  • Set up the length, width and any other information that is needed
  • Click on generate code
  • Preview your shoutbox and if you are satisfied with the way it looks, copy and paste the code in your website or blog. If you want to make more changes, click on control panel - configuration.

Now with your code ready, go back to your website/blog;

  • Go to Design
  • Add gadget
  • Select HTML/Javascript
  • Configure your script
  • On the space provided, paste your code there.
  • Click on Save.

Do not forget to move your gadget on the appropriate place where you want your shoutbox to be displayed.  When you check our site, you will have a shoutbox that looks something like this;

You can now start interacting with your visitors live from your blog.
