How to Build Link Wheel

Link wheel is a method used in SEO process that helps in creating high quality backlinks to a website/blog. These backlinks comes from 2.0 web properties (websites with high page ranking) and  are interconnected with each other all pointing back to your website/blog.

Building a link wheel is considered as an advanced SEO technique but in reality, anyone can be able to do it with ease provided you know some basic search engine optimization techniques. To build a link wheel you need either blogging platforms or websites with 2.0 Web properties. These are good websites with high page ranking.

How to Build Link Wheel
First, you need to decide which 2.0 web properties you will be using for your wheel linking  and how many in you will be using. In this example, we will choose; Blogger (PR 8), Wordpress (PR 9), Weeby (PR 8), Tumbler (PR 8), Squidoo (PR 8) and Livejournal (PR8). Let us assume that your blog that you want to wheel link is hosted by blogger and is about SEO.

Here is a list of 2.0 web properties/blog platform that you have chosen;

1.    Blogger (PR 8)
2.    Wordpress (PR 9)
3.    Weeby (PR 8)
4.    Tumbler (PR 8)
5.    Squidoo (PR 8)
6.    Livejournal (PR8)

Go to your host Blogger or whatever platform you are using and write an article about search engine optimization with one single link pointing to your home page or your main site and another single link pointing to Wordpress.

On Wordpress write another article different from the one you wrote in Blogger and make a single link pointing to your home page/main site and another link pointing to Weeby.

On Weeby write another article different from the one you wrote in Wordpress and make a single link pointing to your home page/main site and another link pointing to Tumbler.

On Tumbler write another article different from the one you wrote in Weeby and make a single link pointing to your home page/main site and another link pointing to Squidoo.

On Squidoo write another article different from the one you wrote in Tumbler and make a single link pointing to your home page/main site and another link pointing to Livejournal.

On Livejournal write another article different from the one you wrote in Squidoo with a link pointing back to your home page/main site. Since this is last 2.0 properties to link to, you can decide to link it back to your main site (leaving it open) or you can link it to Blogger (closed). Whatever way you decide to do, you have already built a wheel link that will help you in getting a better page ranking.

Wheel linking is a good and faster way of creating quality backlinks but anyone who decides to do it must do it wisely, without overdoing it. Otherwise, search engine might notice it and your blog/website can get penalized.

  2. Hi Tito,

Good explanation of how a link wheel works. As you stated you do need to be careful in how you use them. You should be using high quality content to avoid any penalization from Google.

    1. Even if you have high quality contents. Having too many high quality backlinks within a short span of time is what will lead your blog to get penalized.

  3. Hi Tito

So after I set up my first linkwheel as described above and I start to write more articles on my 2.0 sites, should I link them the same way I did in my first wheel?

For example, I link my first article I write on Blogger to Wordpress, write a second article on Blogger a few weeks later and link it again to wordpress? Or should I mix it up and link the new article to Squidoo for example?

    Thanks!
    Natasha

    1. You should mix them up. If you link your first article from Blogger to Wordpress, then the second article should be linked from Wordpress to Squidoo and not to blogger again unless you have decided to end your linking.

    1. You can find alot of people who claim to do wheel linking but I am not sure how effective they do it. I think it is fine if it is done professionally and over a period of time. I have not hired anyone to do wheel linking for my website so, it is hard to recommend anyone to you. Try to contact any company offering SEO services.
