What are Backlinks

A backlink can simply be defined as a link in someone else site that leads to your site. In SEO, backlinks are an important element of SEO process that plays an important role in determining a page ranking. Though it requires patience and hardwork, you can still be ble to get backlinks naturally, over a period of time without having to purchase them or by using other deceptive means to attain them. 

One way of getting quality backlinks is by other websites linking back to your blog. If you have interesting contents, you may find some websites willing to link to your blog. This is good way of getting quality backlinks and to increase your blog traffic as well as the ranking. Other way is by submitting your blog in social networks like Digg and Facebook.

There are two types of backlinks, the links that start from your site leading to an external site is what is called outbound links,  the other one start from an external site leading to your site and is what is called inbound links. If you have many quality backlinks,  search engine consider this as a recommendation and your website tend to rank higher.

The  quality of the  backlinks also matters and it is determined by the contents found on the website where the link is originating from. If the backlinks are coming from a site with related content as what is found in your blog, these backlinks are considered more relevant to your site.  If they are coming from a site with unrelated content, they are considered less relevant. The higher the relevancy of the backlinks, the better the ranking.

 

It is important to remember that, search engines look out for websites with natural links and even though you may modify your blog to be SEO friendly, it will be very hard to get inbound links unless you have quality contents or you have worked hard to build them.

Use of  backlinks building softwares and other automated systems will provide you with backlinks but will eventually be disregarded by search engine and could get your website banned from search engine.
