Tips in Choosing The Right Domain Name

If you are thinking about buying a domain name, then you are in the right place since in this post, I will be discussing about important tips that can help you in choosing the right domain name. When purchasing a domain, it is always important to think about the reputation of the organization that you considering to buy your domain from; ask yourself whether the company is well know or it is just another company that most likely will send your visitors off since no one seem to have ever heard it.

The following are a few things that you should ponder about when selecting the right domain name for your website.

The Size of the Name
The website address that you choose need to be easily recognizable, easy to spell.  A shorter name would most be appropriate than a longer name because of many reasons. It is easy to remember and can easily fit in a business card.  Some organizations  have a list of long domains names that can hardly fit anywhere in a business card. Most people will have difficult time remembering such addresses.

Domain Type
Some domain names such as .com, .net, .biz  are very common and more recognizable than other other domain names. They are much easier to remember and they may make your marketing strategy more meaningful and fruitfuf than ordinary domain names.

Unique Domain Name
There is no need of using a domain name that is already been used by another company to  prevent consumer domain confusion and user restriction. Always do a competitive domain name search to make sure that the domain name that you are considering to use is not been used by another company.

Mispelled Domain Name
This may sound awkward but it may help you in finding a unique domain name for your website. It is also a preventive measure since it is unlikely that you will find someone else using the same domain name. Using mispelled domain names can be good and a safe way to solely acquire ownership of a domain.

Domain Name That Relate to your Niche
Ideally, your domain name should somehow describe your specialization/niche but if you find that you still cannot find such a name then you can decide to go for functional or a unique names. It could be much helpful if you could purchase several domains such as .com, .net  that relates to your many niche and keep them for future use.

Consider Domain Suffix
This will depends on what type of audience you are targetting.  If your are targeting your local audience then you should go for domain suffix that command the most respect in your country. If most common companies in your country are .net, then it would much better if you would choose a domain name with that suffix. Though it all depends on your niche. If your niche is about education, it would be more meaninful to use .edu as your suffix.

These are some tips that can help you in choosing the right domain name for your website. One best way to get the right domain is listing down all your desired domain and visiting those websites that sell domain name. If they do not have those names, they will show you a list of possible domains names that you can use.

  1. Nice tips! Think of a name which you believe the potential clients would type in first to reach out to you. It is a good idea to abbreviate your business name for getting the best domain name.
